You can’t find Newsweek on the newsstand anymore. Newspapers readers consist mostly of old folks. TV audiences are more fragmented than ever. And whatever happened to Oprah?
Joan Stewart, aka The Publicity Hound, will be back speaking to NSA Virginia on Aug. 16, 2013, this time with an all-new set of tips, tricks, tools and strategies to promote your expertise, your speaking business, your books and your products. She’ll explain how to build YOUR OWN media empire online where you can also catch the attention of traditional media.
You will learn:
–How the lines between old and new media have blurred, and what this means for professional speakers. For example, newspaper advertising has decreases so much, and many newspapers have drastically reduced the size of their printed edition, that you might find many articles online that you won’t find in the printed edition. Many of those same reporters are on LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook and they’re sharing the links to their articles with their friends, followers and fans. Many newspapers, magazines, TV and radio stations also welcome video from citizen journalists at their websites. Those media outlets might not cover the stories in their printed or online editions, or on their regular shows, but they will feature them on their websites. CNN, for example, has an entire section of its website called CNN iReport at http://ireport.cnn.com/where you can share your video story with CNN and quite possibly the world. Some of the videos posted here make it onto the newscast.
–The most important social media site for every professional speaker and fiction or non-fiction author. Speakers, especially those who travel frequently, complain that they don’t have a lot of time to participate in social media, and some of them are confused about which sites are best for them. I’ll discuss the Number 1 most important social media site, one that a lot of speakers and others aren’t on yet. Your absence here can hurt you!
–From Twitter lists to LinkedIn groups, there are dozens of ways for professional speakers to use social media to find your target audience so that you can reach, with amazing accuracy, the people most interested in what you have to offer. I’ll show you how to find book reviewers, meeting planners, other speakers who might refer you, and other experts who can help you.
–Right now, as you’re reading this, millions of readers–from casual readers to bookworms–are on the many book review and book recommendation sites–looking for recommendations for good books from the people they follow there. They are also interacting with their favorite authors and promoting their own books. Who needs a book review from the New York Times or the Wall Street Journal when you can reach all these readers directly?
–Some days, ideas for blog posts are nowhere to be found which makes writing a blog really difficult. I’ll give you ideas for quick and dirty blog posts when you don’t have time to write, including blog topics that are right in front of you. And we’ll also discuss why you don’t always have to write long blog posts, the optimum length to write, and what’s much more important than the length of the post. You’ll also get three of my blog templates—great when you’re in a hurry and want time-saving tips for blogging!
–How to use sites like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn to connect with–and pitch–traditional and online journalists (they’re trolling these sites for sources!). They include newspaper reporters, magazine columnists, freelance writers, radio talk show hosts, TV talk show guest bookers, bloggers, and more. But what do you do once you find them? What do you say? Can you pitch a story idea right there on Twitter? Can you offer yourself as a source on their Facebook profile or Facebook page? You’ll find out Aug. 16.
–The best websites for creating your own media outlets. Content is king in Google’s eyes, but it takes a lot of time to create. I’ll show how to slice and dice one article into multiple formats so you aren’t always starting from scratch.
–Everyone wants to know about press releases. Are press releases dead? Or are they an important part of a publicity campaign or a PR program? And what about those free press release distribution sites? Do they work? Find out in Norfolk on Aug. 16 at NSA Virginia.
